Northeastern Connecticut’s Quiet Corner is located within easy driving distance from Boston, New York City, Providence, Hartford and Worcester and Mystic. It is part of “The Last Green Valley” – the Quinebaug & Shetucket Rivers Valley National Heritage Corridor, recognized by Congress in 1994 as a unique national resource.

This National Heritage Corridor is called The Last Green Valley because when viewed from satellites or aircraft at night, the region appears distinctively dark amid the urban and suburban glow of the sprawling metropolitan Boston-to-Washington corridor.

Many visitors sightseeing in Southern New England start in the Mystic area and travel to Boston on the “back roads,” such as Scenic 169, which takes them right through the heart of Connecticut’s Quiet Corner.

Northeastern Connecticut is fortunate to have the country’s second longest National Scenic Byway (Route 169) run right through the middle of it. Route 169 is beautiful all year long, but is most popular during fall foliage season when blazing autumn colors draw leaf peepers from all over the world…
